David Wicks

There seems to be a lot of confusion, amongst people who obviously don't know better or who don't understand the character of David Wicks.

Here are a few points to consider for your own clarification:-

  • David Wicks does not "replace" Michael Moon. In the general scheme of things, Michael Moon is about as important as the corn on David Wicks's left little toe. David Wicks replaces no one. He's David Wicks; and whilst he's not exactly iconic - or as near iconic as Grant Mitchell - he is an important character. Far moreso than Michael Moon.
  • David Wicks provides for the strengthening and re-edification of two of the Square's most important families - the Beales and the Butchers. People forget that David "Wicks" is really David Beale, son of Pete and grandson of Lou, uncle of Peter, Lucy and Bobby, ex-lover of Cindy. He is also the step-brother of Janine Butcher. He is Pat's son.
  • David Wicks is commitment-shy and a bounder, so any of you expecting a reunion with Carol, a wedding at the register office, comfy nights in, Val Doonican cardies, slippers and "Grandad We Love You," forget about it. The David-Carol "love story" was a figment of Bryan Kirkwood's imagination. They were a grope behind the bike sheds and a retaliatory affair when he was on the rebound from Cindy and she was angry at Alan Jackson's infidelity. They were and are not this generation's Frank and Pat. They share a child, and an idiot child at that.
Having taken all of that into consideration, David's return bodes spades of potential.

He is a dodgy businessman, so he could be seen interacting and wheeling and dealing with his stepsister, Janine Butcher. There might be a connection with Danny Pennant. He could even enter into some sort of arrangement at his old haunt, the car lot, with Max; after all, Max was the peacemaker between him and Derek during his last visit.

If David slots into any void left by a departing character, he'll fill the empty space left by Jack. Considering he's arriving mid-September, he could have something to do with Jack's departure. Maybe he buys the boxing club from Jack.

Secondly, it's about time he and Ian buried the hatchet over Cindy, who's been dead since 1999. The Beale family need strengthening, and maybe David will become involved in Ian's restaurant venture. As I said, I can certainly see him bonding with Lucy, and talking to Peter about his mother. David has a foot in both the Beale and the Butcher camps.

Thirdly, he's a ladies' man. Given that he's Ian's brother and he has form, one wonders how long it will be before he's in Denise's knickers. He's cheated on both his brothers with both their wives. He was also attracted to Roxy the last time he surfaced, and a Wicks/Beale union with one of the Mitchells is distinctly a possibility. Or maybe he'll play with fire and buzz around Sharon - and I hope TPTB remember that David and Sharon know each other.

However, of all the ladies, single and otherwise in his age demographic, the one who's most his type is Kirsty Branning.

He's not going to settle with anyone, and if he does, it won't be Carol. Conversely, one thing I can't see him doing is playing daddy and grandad to the village idiot and her sprogs.

And, please, don't let him fuck Kat.

Memo to Jark the Jerk: Mr Know-It-All-ToryBoy-Passive-Aggressive: The only reason David Wicks stopped short of shagging Roxy last year was, as they were going up the stairs with their lips locked and joined at the hip, he heard Phil Mitchell's voice from the kitchen. David's a lover, not a fighter; and as much as anything else, that dampened his passion.

  1. You have (as usual) raised some very good points. When I first heard the news, I thought "nice stable couple, Carol & David", but then reading above, I am now thinking, with all these "young studs" on board, we are going to have old bull/young bull scenario and I am looking forward to it.

Also, didnt Lorraine Newman say there were going to be no more returnees? This must have been on the cards since Pats death.

    1. David Wicks was a popular but weak character, hardly the alpha male against the Mitchell brothers, and if they make him anything else, they will have retconned him. Commitment-shy, dodgy to the point of dishonest ,,,
