IanMandy on Digital Spy notices something significant: Ian did visit Sharon in Florida in 2009. In fact, it was in October 2009, and he visited her to celebrate her fortieth birthday. Jane was most put out, because he took off for the holiday without either her or the kids.
In fact, he returned with a cheesy American teeshirt, bragging about the spread Sharon had (and he didn't mean her arse). He was talking about her house, which he described as second only to Southfork. She was loaded. How or why, I don't know. Selling the club to Jonnie Allen and the pub (on the cheap) to the Mitchells, whilst retaining the bookies she inherited as Dennis's widow would not put her on par or anywhere remotely near Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg.
Besides, think of this ... Sharon had to have a Green Card to live in the US. Easy enough that she got one initially - Angie had bought a bar, and, most likely, she added Sharon to the deeds as co-owner. That's really the only way she would have been allowed to emigrate. It's not as easy as anyone thinks to just pick up and "go" to America.
Sharon had nothing more than a secondary school education, no special skills beyond pulling a pint and no rare technological ability on short supply in the US. But if she owned a business, paid business tax and employed Americans, she could - by that route - obtain a Green Card.
Now the visa comes with restrictions. You simply cannot leave the US on your Green Card and remain abroad for longer than six months. Stay any longer than that, and you lose your residency privilege, business or not. Another thing ... when Sharon returned to Walford the last time, in 2001, Angie had died from cirrhosis of the liver. This being in the days before Obamacare, Sharon ended up having to sell the bar and, ultimately, their house to cover Angie's medical costs. When she took over the Vic in 2001, Steve Owen financed the venture.
She stayed in the US until 2006, when she returned; but before his death, she was planning on returning there to live with Saint Dennis.
Simply not possible.
The only way Sharon would have been allowed back to reside there would be if she'd taken out citizenship during the time she and Angie ran their bar. Otherwise, having remained outside the US for five years, her Green Card privileges would have been rescinded. Even with Den's inheritance, she would only have been allowed to stay a maximum of six months.
Was Sharon an illegal alien? (If she were, she got her ticket to residence when anchor baby Denny was born. Anchor babies are children born in the US to illegal immigrants, the birth of whom gives their mother a right to residency).
As for Saint Dennis, he'd have been turned back at the airport or once a background check had been done and his criminal antecedents had been established.
But all of that pales before what will shortly be revealed and what Letitia Dean revealed in her homecoming interview on Daybreak last year:-
And that revelation is that Sharon's been back in the UK for four years, which begs the question: Where did Ian Beale go in 2009 and whom did he see?
Maybe he saw the real Sharon, who's still living in Florida and living high off the proverbial hog, because this perma-tanned, ueber-blonde, judgemental bimbo bitch sucking up to all things Branning could be anyone, but she sure isn't Sharon.
