Alfie Moon

So ... the question on Digital Spy forum is "Does Anyone Feel Sorry for Alfie?"

The replies are mixed, even to the point that some of the commenters change their minds in the middle of expressing their opinions, which is a bit like changing dicks in the middle of a screw, but - hey - this is what Katshit did, after all.

Do I feel sorry for Alfie? Well, yes, I do; and I'd like to think I've got a bit more compassion about me than that green-faced old troll vald

who says:-

Alfie just loves being one of the boys and the host with the most. He made it clear that he doesn't mind her having affairs and is indifferent to her comings and goings.
I'd still say that Kat is the one in the wrong here, but they're both responsible for the breakdown of the marriage in their own way.

or Louisiana, who displays all the intellectual finesse which isn't prevalent within the state which she's chosen as her screen name. She opines:-

I stopped feeling sorry for him when he spoke to Kat like a POS last year when she found out she was pregnant. After he accused her of carrying another man's child, when it was his, it's no surprise she went and had it off with Mickey Webb.

Alfie was told he had reduced fertility chances. That doesn't mean he can't get Kat pregnant, doctors never say there's nochance of fertility unless a procedure is done that makes it impossible eg. hysterectomy, vasectomy etc, no doctor would risk getting sued if there was a small chance and they claimed otherwise. Alfie's behaviour was ignorant and nasty. You should never speak to your wife the way he did whether she has a reputation or not, if you stand by someone after they have made mistakes, you give it your all, otherwise what's the point?

First the old troll's red remarks ... Let's be perfectly honest. vald hates Alfie. She hates men, and she thinks women should be excused any sort of infidelity imaginable. I'd love to see how she came to that conclusion. Maybe she was religiously repressed.

Anyhoo, the old bitch is wrong in assuming that Alfie doesn't mind Kat's infidelity and is indifferent to her. That's what she'd like to believe. Maybe she misses Bryan Kirkwood's deft hand at fucking up the ethos of EastEnders, because Alfie ca 2010 is nothing like the Alfie who was introduced in 2002.

Alfie, both then and now, was a rarity in EastEnders - a genuinely nice person. Hell, even Phil Mitchell liked him. Alfie is one of life's carers, someone who's always putting himself before others. He gave up a Green Card and the chance of a career in the US to care for his grandmother and young brother after his parents were killed. He took the rap for his cousins' credit card fraud. He actually saw the good in Kat and made her believe in herself.

In fact, the natural, immediate successor to Alfie Moon was Kevin Wicks, who differed only in the fact that Alfie was, by nature, an optimist who wanted to help people, whilst Kevin put himself out in a welter of world-weary resignation.

By the time Alfie and Kat left Walford in 2005, their character arcs had been completed, and they got their happy ending. They were a couple for whom the public rooted and wanted to see a successful marriage. They really didn't need to return, but they should have returned on a higher level than when they left, not wallowing in the mire of misery.

If anything, Alfie's desperate reaction to Kat's shag in the alleyway was totally out of character, considering his reaction as such to similar occurrences in 2004, and indicative of the meme which Kirkwood was trying to promote - i.e, "strong" women, exemplified by mouthy, snarky chav-types coupled with weak, gormless men. Even Phil Mitchell suffered under this - becoming Grant to Shirley's Phil. And Ian Beale as well. Ian Beale, prior to Bryan Kirkwood, would never have countenanced a woman insulting his sexual prowess and taunting him for being afraid of ending up alone.

This aside, I would actually venture to say Alfie's reaction was meant to shame Kat into assuming some sort of responsibility for her behaviour. If vald

would care to reflect, she'd remember the circumstances of Kat's "confession."

It was evening in the pub, which was busy downstairs. Kat confessed her indiscretion to Alfie upstairs. At first, he was angry - coldly angry, to be precise. However, before he had a chance to deal with the situation, Tyler interrupted him to say that the police were downstairs. Alfie left, telling her he would be back to deal with her after dealing with that situation.

By the time he returned, she'd had enough time to call on her "dirty girl" motif, whining about how men smelled the slut on her - maybe it's the way you dress, love - so she had to play the part. According to Kat, Michael smelled the slut on her, which is why he slept with and impregnated her. Of course, if vald

thought long and hard enough, she'd remember that by July 2012, according to Kat's conversation with Michael Moon on his wedding day, that slut-stinking one-night-stand had ballooned into a fully-fledged declaration of love, only to have Slut Slutter turn around to Alfie five minutes later and imply that Michael virtually raped her.

Kirkwood's Kat is like his Whitney and his Tanya and, to a great degree, his Zainab - women who focus on a tragic personal event in their lives and use this event as an excuse for any inappropriate behaviour. Kat's the eternal "dirty girl." The fact that she was abused as a child gives her every right to sleep around on her husband and then to tell him, basically, that that's the way she was and he should stuff it.

In point of fact, her words echo Phil Mitchell's, when he was confronted by Shirley, who'd discovered his own infidelity with Auntie Glenda. It was, simply, the way he was. Tough tits and deal with it.

The other culprits are just as bad. Whitney's "special" because of her abuse, so that entitles her to flirt with a good boy long enough to snake him and then shit on him from a great height when a bad boy catches her eye. When Bianca was around, it was Bianca who went as far as assaulting (Fatboy) and threatening (Tyler) with dire consequences for upsetting the delicate Whitney. Tanya turns on the tears and the sob story - after six years of hypocrisy on the Square, we're supposed to feel sorry for this bitch because - boohoo - at thirteen, she suddenly helped Daddy Dearest to die. Oh well, that explains everything.

So I dismiss vald's

remark with the contempt it deserves.

Go on ... fizzle out ...

Now to dissect the fragrant Louisiana bit by bit. First, this:-

I stopped feeling sorry for him when he spoke to Kat like a POS last year when she found out she was pregnant. After he accused her of carrying another man's child, when it was his, it's no surprise she went and had it off with Mickey Webb.

I am sorry, but this is the biggest pile of stinking horseshit I've yet to read. Just to refresh, Louisiana's memory, here's the clip, at the very end, where Kat tells Alfie about her pregnancy:-

With all due respect, he did not talk to her as if she were a POS. Anything but. Ian Beale would have carried that scene off with piece-of-shit panachery. Alfie was gentle, disappointed, but still very loving - caressing and even kissing Kat.

And - again, with all due respect - he was perfectly justified in his suspicions. Kat had been repeatedly unfaithful to him before - three times, two within her first year of marriage and then getting pregnant by his cousin not 24 hours after Alfie was jailed. Add to that, the fact that Alfie believed, and had been told by a medical authority, that he was sterile and was not capable of fathering a child; and he was justified in his reaction, especially since, for the better part of 2011, Kat had used every opportunity available to her to humiliate Alfie in the most public way. Kat, in congruence with a lot of people with her history, is an abuse victim who has become, herself, an abuser. Abuse involves a lot more than physical mistreatment, although Kat's assaulted Alfie as well.

Second:-

Alfie was told he had reduced fertility chances. That doesn't mean he can't get Kat pregnant, doctors never say there's nochance of fertility unless a procedure is done that makes it impossible eg. hysterectomy, vasectomy etc, no doctor would risk getting sued if there was a small chance and they claimed otherwise.
WRONG. Alfie was told by a doctor in Spain that he was infertile, sterile. He may have misunderstood the doctor, as Yusef subsequently explained, or it may have been that he'd been suffering from a virus or extreme stress, any of which can result in temporarily impeding sperm production, again, as Yusef explained. Also, Louisiana may want to realise that exposure to certain chemicals and/or medical treatment renders a man infertile. For example, chemotherapy renders a man infertile, which is why doctors always suggest younger cancer sufferers do the necessary and store their sperm in sperm banks before beginning chemotherapy treatment.

There may also have been a simpler reason for Alfie believing he was infertile, and that was the language barrier - a doctor explaining in halting English might lose a lot in translation, and - again - Yusef, a doctor, suggested this.

Alfie's behaviour was ignorant and nasty.

Was it? I can assure you, compared to some of the other men in Albert Square, his behaviour in this instance was exemplary. To begin with, none of the other men resident in the Square would even countenance their wife showing up pregnant by another man, much less a relative. Would Max Branning raise Jack's child if Tanya had got up the duff by him in their little year-long tryst? Hell, no. He'd have taken his three kids and scarpered rather than take her back bearing Jack's child. Phil Mitchell? Ian Beale has long ago said that he wouldn't raise any other man's child, and he's stuck to his guns. Even Jack would have turned Ronnie out if she'd shown up trying to pass another man's child as his. And they wouldn't have minced any words either.

You want "ignorant and nasty?" Here's Ian Beale confronting Laura over a pregnancy he thought was another man's. And, as we know, Bobby Beale is Ian's son.

You should never speak to your wife the way he did whether she has a reputation or not, if you stand by someone after they have made mistakes, you give it your all, otherwise what's the point?

You should never physically abuse your spouse in public, the way Kat did when she punched Alfie to the ground. She did a lot of that, using her pregnancy as an excuse to slap her way around Walford when she returned. You shouldn't lie to your spouse either, and Kat was full of lies - beginning with the fact that her pregnancy was the result of a nameless one night stand. Then it was a one night stand with Michael. Then they fell in love. Then it was Michael's fault, but that's no surprise. Nothing is ever Kat's fault. I'm surprised she didn't cry rape. And you should never belittle your husband's sexual prowess in public either, which is something Kat did on two very prominent occasions, one of which she was told off roundly by Big Mo for being out of order.

Alfie loved Kat enough to forgive her a very big indiscretion, maybe knowing Michael to be the con artist that he is for taking her on in a vulnerable state; maybe he thought that his love for her was enough that she wouldn't do that again. Precious few men would have taken on another man's child as their own. Kevin Wicks did and got left holding not one, but two babies. And Kevin's wife is what Kat is surely destined to become.

And, just so Louisiana knows, the reason Kat fucked Mark the delivery man was simply because Alfie didn't pay attention to her new dress. But that's her little party trick. Anytime she feels she's being ignored by Alfie, she goes looking for a fuck. Hell, it doesn't even have to be Alfie. She went sniffing for Shaggerman when she found out that Shenice wasn't coming back from Spain. So I suppose when the time comes that Tommy turns her foul voice off for a minute, she'll fo shagshopping again. Narcissistic much?

So do I feel sorry for Alfie Moon? Pretty much. No one deserves to be straddled with a self-centred, self-obsessed, outright bitch like that. I hope whenever this pathetic storyline ends, Kat is kicked to the gutter and banished from Walford. Like forever. She's ruined.

Oh, and as for Louisiana ... sanctimonious Katapologist of the Week.

You know something? Kat's sister, Little Mo, was beaten to a pulp by her husband and was never unfaithful, when she had every reason to be.

And finally, this gem (and I was waiting for this):-

Kat didn't cheat on Alfie with Michael. Alfie had gone to prison and Kat broke up with him, I can't remember if she told Alfie what the deal was, but the fact she wasn't going to visit him would surely have told him all he needed to know?
Sorry, but she did cheat. Tanya cheated on Max with Jack, just like Sharon cheated on Grant with Phil. Just because a couple aren't together or are separated, doesn't give someone a licence to cheat. Unless you are divorced legally, you are still married. In point of fact, Alfie and Kat were scamming the gangsters who owned the pub they managed in Spain. Kat was in on the scame as well. The gangsters found out, and set fire to the pub, making it look as though Alfie did this for insurance purposes.

When Alfie found out about this, before he was arrested, he gave Kat all the gangster money he'd scammed and sent her to stay with Michael, asking Michael to look after her. Well, we know now what Michael did - one night and a bottle of wine did it. Of course, she wasn't going to visit Alfie. He told her to scarper with the money - which is why he came looking for her when he was released and why she gave part of the money back to the thugs.

I get it; Louisiana doesn't like Alfie, and she's entitled to her own opinion about that - but she isn't entitled to her own facts, especially if they are more fiction than the fiction we've seen on the screen.

Two final points: Alfie allowed Roxy to stay for weeks in the Vic, after she confessed her love for him - a love which he rejected on the basis that he was a married man. At anytime, he could have slept with Roxy, knowing how she felt and feeling himself developing an affection for her. He didn't. Not once. In fact, he discouraged her. Kat was away from Alfie for one day and she'd fucked Michael.

And on the day Michael married, Alfie told Michael that he now realised how Michael had scammed Jean, because Kat told him Michael had done that; and, according to Alfie, Kat doesn't lie. Well, I'm sorry, she does. And, as we'll see on Friday, she still is.
