Memememememememememe Part I: Lucy Beale

Please, stop trying to offer excuses for Lucy Beale, especially those of you who say she has a "right" to be angry for her father abandoning her or because her father "chose" Mandy over her. And, please, disabuse yourself of the notion that she has her brother's welfare as foremost for her concern.

Lucy cares, first and principally, about Lucy; since Ian's departure and, especially since Joey's come onto the scene - more specifically, since her skinny shanks have got a taste of Joey's dick - it's all about Lucy having power over the infamous Beale empire, which consists of the cafe, the chippie and the fruit'n veg stall.

Lucy certainly knew Ian was heading for a mental fall before he left. She was concerned enough for his mental welfare before he left and when his behaviour was erratic; it was only when Juicy Joey showed up and took advantage of her daddy issues that she's emerged the fully-fledged bitch that she always promised to be.

Yes, it's true that when Lucy was very small, Ian lied about her health in order to stop Mel from breaking their engagement. This was Ian at his absolute worse, and it wasn't long after that that he went bankrupt for the first time.

It's also true that adolescent Lucy didn't cut Ian any slack after his association with Jane. It's also true that, on numerous occasions, both Jane and Christian - neither of whom were parents or had had any experience with children - undermined Ian's parenting either to curry favour with Ian's kids (Jane) or to undermine Ian and make him appear foolish (Christian).

As for Ian "choosing Mandy" over Lucy, this was a relationship which Lucy had sabotaged from the very beginning, even destroying two wedding dresses and systematically cancelling all the wedding arrangements behind Ian's back. not only that, but Lucy wants to remember that Ian "chose" Lucy over Jane, his wife, in the deception behind Lucy's abortion, allowing Jane to believe her promised child had been miscarried.

In truth, in recent years, Lucy has never treated Ian well, and Ian has stood by Lucy irrevocably. Who also remembers that Ian allowed Lucy to lie to the police in order to protect Steven Beale, Ian's stepson and the person who shot Jane and caused her infertility? Lucy took charge of that escapade.

We all know that Lucy is less than bright - thinking that Ben is a Beale? - but her treatment of her father, when he's quite clearly ill and not himself, is simply abjectly cruel.

I hope this awful EastEnders' character, played by a less-than-adequate actress, receives appropriate karma and gets the flaming boot. Soon.

  1. I think Lucy is an important character, as is Peter for the continuity. It was also good to see the differences between two children bought up in the same house, how different they turned out. Esp as they were twins. I hope a Peter returns soon, but please, I cant stand this Lucy. She needs a new head, and soon. The "actress" just needs a decent steak and chips!
