This stellar, unique award goes to that stalwart of frustrated, middle-aged women everywhere ... vald for this comment about Sharon:-
Now that is either the typical one brain-celled remark of a dumbass, or it's the mean remark of a bullying, jealous bitch, or it's just another trollism, or it's the callous remark of some barfly of an old trout jealous because she can no longer attract male company so she pisses on various male characters and apologises for the bad behaviour of the women characters who either resemble her at one time in her life or in her fantasies.
Let's deconstruct what she's said.
That's the prototype of a vicious, vindictive piece of bitchery. It's also hypocritical. That sort of remark, which she's aimed at Sharon, could easily be applied to her heroine, Kat.
Kat certainly looked down her nose last week at Shirley's misfortune, assuming that her plight meant that Shirley was responsible for the outbreak of bedbugs in the Vic. She's also been very pithy and condescending to Janine, considering herself and her family better than she, whilst encouraging Stacey to break up Janine's marriage.
As far as Kat's self-entitlement is concerned, Kat refuses to accept responsibility for any of her inappropriate behaviour. Kat's cheating is never Kat's fault. She's a dirty girl, men smell the whore in her and she responds in kind - and it's all because her husband doesn't grovel at her feet 24/7, so it's really Alfie's fault.
I haven't seen any behaviour like that on Sharon's part. In fact, she admitted openly to Lucy Beale that she's made very poor judgement errors in recent years and paid the price for them - getting picked up in bars and having comfort sex. She didn't blame it on anything or anyone. She owned it.
Kat's rude to women and offers herself to men on a plate, or maybe vald's suffering short-term memory loss for the past few months. Kat's so-called "friendship" with Kim is contrived to say the least - she wasn't too good to flirt openly with Kim's boyfriend and in front of Kim. Apart from that faux friendship, she has no female friends. Even Jean, whom she bathes from time to time, was bullied by Kat into taking the rap for Mo's benefit fraud, and that triggered a bi-polar episode.
Sharon was rude to Tanya, but Tanya spent an evening in the Vic, making snide remarks about Sharon without even knowing her or her circumstances; and Saint Tanya is quick to judge others without ever realising she had a pretty dismal moral record by the time she was eighteen.
Sharon's not likeable? Well, vald should troll a few other fora and see the almost universal hate blasting away at Kat.
Sharon can be as neurotic as she wants, she has already proven that she's miles better a mother than Kat is. 99% of the time, Kat ignores her child. Alfie and Jean do most of the caring for Tommy. Kat ignores him most of the time.
Well, first of all, vald really needs to work on her English grammar. The phrase is "must have known". Past perfect needs an auxiliary verb, not a preposition. People who make the mistake of writing, let alone saying "must of, would of or could of" instead of have are pretty damned ignorant, to say the least - and that's being nice.
Secondly, well, of course she knew hanging around bars and picking up men wasn't normal behaviour or acceptable. She said as much. In point of fact, she was still grieving for her husband, and people exhibit grief in many different ways. She said she was lonely, and the sex was, most likely, for comfort. She didn't offer that explanation as an excuse for her behaviour. She told Lucy about it as an example that adults can, sometimes, act inappropriately and make bad judgements for various reasons. Something tips them over the edge. This is what happened to Sharon. You could say she was unhinged by grief. She didn't use it as an excuse; she owned her bad behaviour.
Tanya broke a marriage up when she was eighteen and snared a husband away from his wife and child. She has yet to acknowledge that what she did was wrong in anyway - even when her mother verbally rammed it down her throat. That is far, far worse than what Sharon did. Kat did, virtually, the same thing and for the same reason with her husband's cousin and has yet to acknowledge that what she did was wrong. Maybe vald would have been more forgiving of Sharon if she'd rationalised that behaviour as being all Dennis's fault because the bastard died.
As for vald looking down her fat nose at Sharon not seeking help, why doesn't she reserve some of that criticism for Kat, who's been repeatedly unfaithful to her husband, whines on about it being because she's the proverbial "Dirty Girl" and then does nothing about it at all, instead, using it as an excuse for her bad behaviour and daring anyone to challenge her about it? And how does she know that Sharon hasn't sought help? We don't know what happened to her whilst she was in the States or even when she returned here?
As for behaving like a tart and having no consideration for her child, I have three names to throw at vald ... Kat, Tanya and Shirley. Now criticise Sharon's behaviour.
For that insipidly callous, inconsiderate and compassionless comment, I would like to hope vald is so together mentally that she could be as solid as a brick shithouse in a hurricane and I would like to award her the Dumbass, Bully, Bitch, Troll and General OLD TROUT of the Week Award ...
