EastEnders ... Everybody's Talking about It

... But Lorraine only listens to the numbskulls, the tweenies and the sheeple.

A discerning viewer from the IMDB forum:-

If you're after sensible answers to illogical scenarios then you won't get any. Nobody here has the first clue why the writers/producers do what they do. At this point, it seems as though they are only trying to appeal to the dumbest, most suggestible people in the country. Forget art and expression, EastEnders exists to shock and awe the dimmest of the dim-wits, to leave chavs and skanks slack-jawed in amazement at all the "twists" and "turns" while the rest of us are sat laughing at how bad every episode is.

This is coming from me, someone who used to enjoy sitting down and dedicating a little part of my evening to EastEnders. You could almost say I was a fan of EastEnders. But for the whole of 2012 it has been the most unbelievable, nonsensical piece of trash aired on the BBC (and that's saying something). How the BBC can go from quality such as Have I Got News For You and QI to EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing is beyond me, it baffles me every time I tune in.
Newman is channeling the lowest common denominator demographic, simply because they are too dumb to see what's been happening to this programme for the past decade. People forget she signed off on the most abject of shit pushed by Berridge (Ferreiras, Zombie Den), Hutchinson (tearing up six months' worth of script) and Harwood (killing off Kathy Beale off-screen, introducing the Branning dynamic, Stacey Slater etc).

By pitching for the lowest of the low, Newman is demeaning not only the brand "EastEnders" but also the BBC, itself.

I have only one word of warning for her: Brookside.

  1. Whoever wrote that should be working at the BBC. It's incredible how standards have dropped.

    1. I find it hellacious that they are doing an incest story and Newman is talking about it as if it creams her knickers, just NOW in the wake of Savile. Have they no common sense?
