Mark Bloody NOT Fowler Not Junior

vaslav37 is in a particularly obsessive mood today and he's pissing me off mightily, so let me make something quite clear right now.

Shut the fuck UP about "Mark Fowler Jnr."

He simply isn't.

Michelle's son was adopted by the man she married in the United States. Therefore, he's neither "Fowler" nor "junior." He's "Mark WhateverHisStepfather'sNameIs".

He may know who his birth father is. He may not. My guess is that he doesn't.Why? Because Michelle seems so totally moved on and removed from her life in Walford that I don't think she'd be assed about him knowing. She's never returned (which is totally implausible in this day and age), neither has she shown her son any interest in exposing him to what essentially is his heritage.

The boy, who would be an adolescent now, is totally and utterly 100% American, totally immersed in their culture. If he's had exposure to any other culture, it's most likely been Latino.

Not, vaslav37's latest obsessive question is to wonder if Sharon knew about Michelle's son's paternity?

My guess is that she doesn't. Michelle did a pretty damned good job keeping it a secret from Sharon about Vicky, and the impression here is that if she wanted Sharon to know, she would have told her. And if that had been the case, Sharon would have certainly told Grant the last time she saw him - or she'd at least have told Phil when she returned the last time.

Sharon's like that, you see.

So, no, I don't think Sharon knows about Mark WhateverHisStepfather'sNameIs being Grant's son, and I think TPTB are pretty much decided to let that sleeping dog lie.

Why?

Because the kid was a plot device, something that would have given Susan Tully a return storyline, which would only have worked if Ross Kemp were still hanging around. In fact, it is a storyline which could only work if both of the principles were in Walford. Michelle getting pregnant by Grant was the door left open for her return; but she decided to pack in acting, and Ross Kemp left.

Having the kid return with no Grant Mitchell around would have no impact. Having him return with Grant about, but without Michelle, would have very little impact. At the moment, the child is sixteen years old and still in secondary school in the US system. He lives in Florida, for fuck's sake, where the weather is beautiful 90% of the time, petrol is cheap and the cost of living is cheaper. He would have a driving licence now, probably has his own SUV, plays gridiron instead of soccer and doesn't need fake tan. Why on earth would he want to return to a miserygut place like Walford?

Michelle isn't going to be recast, if Sharon had known about this, she would have told Grant, and since no one's happened upon the secret itself (and the Fowlers and Ian have visited Michelle many times), then this simply ain't gonna happen.

The pregnancy happened for a reason., but things changed when the actress pursued another career and the actor left the show.

Get over it, or as they say in Brooklyn "fuggedaboutit." It's history.

As to vaslav37's confident assumption that Michelle and Sharon have "fallen out" over this, he should realise this, in his ignorance: I am well aware that Michelle and Sharon lived in the same state. However, Florida is a big state. Maybe vaslav37 would like to look at a map. Michelle lives in the North, along the panhandle, near Alabama, where her husband if from.

Michelle lives in the redneck part.

Sharon lived in the Southern part of the state, near-enough to Miami, where most tourists and winter residents gather.

The geographical distance between the two women was roughly similar to the distance between London and Aberdeen. They were hardly seeing each other every weekend. Besides, as Letitia Dean said in an early interview and which has yet to be discovered, Sharon has, in fact, been back in the UK for four years. (Yes, I know. That's another piece of goddamned retcon, because we all know that Ian visited her for her fortieth birthday 3 years ago, but who the hell cares? EastEnders doesn't.)

So let's throw the baby that everyone calls Mark Fowler Jr out with the proverbial bathwater, shall we? Because he isn't.

Let's throw vaslav37 out instead.

Oh, and one last thing ... please re-read the Lorraine Newman non-Interview, where she said little of anything and a lot of nothing apart from towing the corporation's line. One of the few things she did make abundantly clear was that she was getting away from bringing old characters back; and whilst the new characters arriving in 2013 would still have some sort of shitty attachment to people already living in the Square, we won't be seeing the return of old familiar faces.

That means no Grant and it also means NO. FLAMING. RONNIE.

So get over that obsession as well.
